Lyca Mobile recently made a public announcement about an unexpected interference on its network, believed to have been triggered by a cyberattack. There’s also a possibility that this breach could have jeopardized user data.
Originating from the UK, Lyca Mobile offers mobile telecommunications and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services across 60 nations, covering areas like the U.S., U.K., Germany, Australia, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
This attack, which unfolded over the past weekend, led to service disturbances in almost every region the company operates in, with only four exceptions. Specifically, both customers and vendors faced difficulties when trying to access the company’s recharge portal. The press release also highlighted disruptions in both domestic and international call services.
To address this crisis and assess the extent of potential data compromise, Lyca Mobile has initiated a prompt investigation, roping in IT specialists from third parties.
All relevant law enforcement and data protection agencies are now in the loop regarding this security breach.

Lyca Mobile’s official communication emphasizes, “The protection of our customer data remains our utmost priority. We are rapidly delving into whether this assault might have led to any data breach. While we are confident about the encryption of our records, we aim to keep our customers in the know regarding the investigation’s findings, as we collaborate with experts to understand the entire picture.”
Interestingly, the company’s official statement addressing the event and its implications has been removed from its original URL, as indicated by a company spokesperson. Additionally, it was observed that the page containing the statement had a “noindex” directive, thereby ensuring search engines didn’t list it in their results.
The mention of encrypted data in their statement hints at the company either suspecting or confirming unauthorized database access. However, there’s no clarification about the encryption methodologies employed for safeguarding user data.
On the service restoration front, Lyca Mobile mentions that efforts are in progress, yet some services in the affected regions are still not operational.
